Frequently Asked Question

How to find the MAC Address of your personal device
Last Updated a year ago

MAC addresses are unique identifiers for a wireless connection.

With the change to have D118-Staff be an allow list, you will need to give your MAC address to your building's technology assistant in order to be allowed on the network.

Phones are a bit tricky because they usually create a "fake" MAC address for each network they connect to, so you will need to specify using the static device MAC.

  • iPhone
  1. Go into the Wi-Fi settings. You should see a list of all available Wi-Fi networks.
  2. Click the blue "i" in a circle next to the network you will be connecting to (D118-STAFF)
  3. Once in the specific network settings, uncheck the "Private Wi-Fi Address" slider, and take down the "Wi-Fi Address" which is the MAC Address. All other settings can be left as default.

  • Android - Some may look different, but functionality should be similar
    1. Go in to internet settings to see all the available networks. Select the network you want to connect to (D118-STAFF)
    2. When connecting, hit the "Advanced Options" dropdown. At the bottom under "Privacy", change "Use randomized MAC" to "Use device MAC". Hit the connect button, even though it will not actually be able to connect or it will have no internet connection.
    3. Go into general settings and scroll down to the "About Phone" section
    4. Find the "Device Wi-Fi MAC address" listed near the bottom. This is the MAC address to give to your technology assistant.
